2009 Lincoln Penny Errors

As I sit down at the table with a magnifying class examining a 2009 Lincoln penny, found in my pocket change, I am in total awe. I have a few pennies that are the Lincoln Professional.

Coin errors are not easy.I usually refer to a few error books like the Cherrypickers’ Guide This book comes in two volumes and extensive guide on errors.
I also simply love Strike It Rich with Pocket Change

Be sure to get a magnifier with at least 7x up to see some of this errors.  It can be relaxing to look at each coin. So come along with me on this journey of learning. Remember, I am using this site to share some of the things I am learning. I hope it is helpful.
Now get out those new Lincoln pennies. If you don’t have any yet you can get them at your local coin dealer, Ebay or directly from the mint. As of this writing some of the rolls are sold out but you can get them in the 2009 Proof set.

The Mint News Blog has an insightful article about possible double die errors on the 2009 Lincoln Formative years cent. The Lincoln Formative Years cent is the second in the four new coins released this year. Be sure to read the engaging comments at the end of the post.

A bootstrap error has been reported on the Lincoln Formative Years Series. This was featured on a CoinLink. It appears that you may not need a high magnification to see this error.

I will revisit this later I am sure. Meanwhile, I will keep learning so if I see one in pocket change I will know what I am looking at. Please share anything you might know with this babyboomer. Thanks

Two Rolls of Lincoln Pennies Sell for $20.00 on Ebay

I saw  where two rolls of the Lincoln pennies, The Formative Years, sold for $20.00 on Ebay. Why? Probably because they are sold out at the mint. These are just one a series of new pennies you will see.

They are going to make a wonderful collection for you and your grandchildren. So go read the history and check out other releases as well as sets available at the US Mint.

Now some of the sets are on back order and others are sold out. But you can get a set of the pennies included in the 2009 proof set as well as the silver proof set.

Of course your local dealer will have a supply so you can also start your collection by chatting with one that will also educate you on the collection process.

Looking for The Mint Mark But Can’t Find It?-Pennies

I found out that not all mint marks are in the same place on the each coin. That so much depends on the date and type of coin. so here is a short little list that may help.

Indian Head cent  -Mint marks appear only on coins dated 1908 and 1909 below the wreath on the tail side(Reverse)

Lincoln cent(1909-date) -Look for it below the date .

What Is The Obverse Of A Coin

Now, as you know, every area of expertise has it’s own language. Well that also holds true in coin collection. When I first heard this term it sounded no different that hearing a carpenter talk about using a “2 by 4″.

But if you are new like me and hanging around this site reading posts or viewing some of the videos you will need to learn a few terms. Hence, I will post them and you can learn them with me.As time goes by you will be excited, like I am getting, when you hear the term mentioned by a dealer or on a video and you recognize it.

The obverse of a coin is the front, main, top, or “heads” side of a coin, usually bearing a portrait. The opposite of the reverse side.

Ok, so here is a video talking about a valuable Lincoln penny’s obverse side.
